Literature Text

«It was three o'clock in the morning when the phone rang. That was the third time it rang in the past two hours. They had been calls from people I didn't know and in both cases they were wrong number calls. Some girl ordering a pizza (with mushrooms, pineapple and double amount of anchovies) and a guy calling an erotic line asking for Priscilla's special service. The most annoying part was that each time the phone had sounded, exactly, in that sweet moment when I was getting happily asleep again. Who could it be now? I looked down at the screen and it was another unknown number. I cancelled the call. Ten minutes later, another ring. The same number. I replied.
"Yes? Juan speaking" I said.
"This is the Grim Reaper co. speaking. Sorry to disturb you at this late time, Sir. Because of budget cuts we don't have enough staff to visit in person everyone who is going to die and yes, you are going to..."
I threw the phone through the window. For some reason I knew that he wasn't lying. But it had been a long day and I just wanted to go back to sleep. Hell could wait.»
This was a class exercise I did a few years ago, while studying English. It had to be a short tale around 180 ~ 200 words that began with the sentence: "It was three o'clock in the morning".
This version of the tale has been edited and corrected recently. To read the original version I wrote years ago, check my scraps section, here.
